While I am beyond thankful for being the first in my family to pursue post-secondary education in Canada and having the opportunity to do so, the burden of student debt is too great. This is especially a struggle when you take the sum of our debt as a family unit. If it weren't for our debt and the financial instability it represents, we would not prolong having children any longer. We would have to take $1,000 a month of our earnings in order to pay it off in a 10-year term. We can't do that so we do what we can even if it takes longer to pay. The reality is that the cost of living is greater than what repayment assistance takes into account.
