Christine, 33

I'm disabled and chronically ill, and because of that it took 9.5 years to finish my degree. I racked up over $40,000 in debt. I couldn't get a job after graduating, and I then received two medical diagnoses that mean I'll probably never be able to work full-time. This debt prevents my husband and I from saving money to buy a home and raise children. It means that I am beholden to my husband, because his earnings are paying my debt. I hate being dependent on him, and his having to pay my student loans makes that far worse.
